Privacy

This covers singleoriginstudio.com and the apps published by Single Origin Studio. The games have their own policy, because the stores require it to sit alongside the products it covers — read the games policy.

The short version

This website has no accounts, no cookies, no analytics and no advertising. Nothing you do here is logged by us or tied to you. The one third party your browser contacts is Google Fonts — see below, because we would rather state it than let you assume otherwise.

What this website collects

Nothing. There is no sign-up, no comment box, no shopping cart and no tracking script. We set no cookies and use no local storage except a single entry that remembers whether you chose the light or dark theme — that value never leaves your device and is not an identifier.

The site is static, so there is no application database. Our hosting provider keeps standard server logs (IP address, timestamp, requested URL, user agent) for operational and security purposes. We do not read those logs to build a picture of individual visitors, and we do not combine them with anything else.

Google Fonts

The typefaces are loaded from fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com. That means your browser makes a request to Google, and Google receives your IP address and user agent as part of it. No cookie is set by that request, and we receive nothing from it.

We would prefer this not to be the case, and self-hosting the font files is on the list. Until then, saying so plainly seemed better than a blanket claim of "no third parties" that would not be true.

Embedded video

Where a page offers a video, the player is not loaded until you click it. Video files we host ourselves involve no third party at all. If a page ever embeds YouTube, it uses youtube-nocookie.com and only loads after a deliberate click — so simply reading the page contacts nobody.

What the apps collect

Emberlock — our private journal — collects nothing. It is offline by design. Everything you write is stored only on your device, encrypted, and is never uploaded to us. There is no account, no sign-in, no email, no analytics, and no advertising.

  • Your entries live in an encrypted database on your phone, openable only with your PIN, passphrase, fingerprint, Face ID or Touch ID. We cannot read them, and neither can anyone without that code.
  • No usage tracking, no crash analytics, no third-party advertising SDKs.
  • Optional cloud backup and auto-sync are off by default. If you turn them on, the app uploads an end-to-end-encrypted copy of your journal to a private, app-only folder in your own Google Drive or, on iPhone, your own iCloud — encrypted on your phone with your backup passphrase before it leaves the device. We never receive that file or your passphrase and cannot open it; it stays in your Google or Apple account, and you can delete it whenever you like.
  • Premium is sold through Google Play or the App Store. Your payment is handled by Google or Apple — we never see your card or billing details, only whether your account owns Premium. Purchases follow that store's terms.
  • The app can fetch small "more from the studio" promo cards over the internet — that is a download of content to your phone; nothing about you or your journal is ever sent.
  • Uninstalling the app removes your journal from the device. A backup you placed in your own Google Drive or iCloud stays there until you delete it.

The standard every app published here is designed to meet:

  • It opens and works without an account.
  • It does not send analytics or usage telemetry you were not asked about.
  • Data you create stays on your device unless you explicitly export or sync it.
  • It does not read your contacts, photos, location or call history unless a feature you chose requires it, and then only while you use that feature.

Email you send us

If you email the studio, or use a "notify me" form (which simply opens your own mail client), we receive whatever you write and your email address. That is used to reply to you and, if you asked to be notified, to send you a note when something ships. It is not added to any advertising list, not sold, and not shared. Ask us to delete it and we will.

Children

This website is not directed at children, and it collects nothing from anyone. Where an app or game is rated for a younger audience, the relevant store listing and that product's own policy state what applies.

Your rights

Because we hold almost nothing, most data requests have a short answer. You can still ask us what we hold about you, ask for a copy, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Write to hello@singleoriginstudio.com and a person — the same person who wrote the software — will answer.

Changes

If this policy changes in a way that affects you, the date at the top changes and the change is described here rather than quietly folded in. Material changes to an app's data handling are announced before the app update ships.
